Often pure titanium sheet is used for the purpose of getting really close to the final size of the part being manufactured. The material is machined to the closest size of the desired part and the finished product has a more uniform grain structure. Titanium plate is often used as a thermal barrier because titanium blocks heat and does not transfer it to the rest of the component. Titanium plates and sheets have ballistic properties that make them ideal for driver protection in race cars.
